Ford Active Park Assist 2.0

Active Park Assist 2.0

Active Park Assist 2.0 makes parking less stressful by going beyond just taking over steering operations. The system assists parking in and out of parallel and perpendicular spaces using sensors to detect available parking spots. The system then steers, accelerates, and brakes as required to maneuver in and out of parking spaces.

Technology behind Active Park Assist 2.0

The recently upgraded Active Park Assist 2.0 system utilizes twelve (12) sensors and four (4) cameras to precisely park the vehicle. These are the locations of the sensors and cameras:

  • Twelve (12) sensors: (4) front bumper, (4) rear bumper, (2) driver's side, (2) passenger's side
  • Four (4) cameras: (1) front grill, (1) rear tailgate, (1) driver's side mirror, (1) passenger's side mirror

How do you use Ford’s Active Park Assist 2.0?

Press the Active Park Assist 2.0 parking button* to bring up full screen notifications. The parking button* is near the transmission selector on the center console. Press either the parking button* or the soft keys on the large LCD screen display to switch between Parallel Park In, Perpendicular Park In, or Parallel Park Out parking modes. Use the direction indicator lever to search for a parking space on the driver or passenger side of your vehicle. Drive your vehicle approximately 3ft away other parked vehicles when searching for a parking space. A tone sounds and further directions appear in the large LCD screen when the Active Park Assist 2.0 system finds a suitable parking space. Press and hold the brake pedal. Release the steering wheel and shift into neutral (N). Press and hold the active park assist button. Release the brake pedal to allow the vehicle to park.

Which types of parking spots can Active Park Assist 2.0 guide you into?

  • Parallel Park In - assists the driver with parallel parking by using sensors to measure the distance to the curb and other parked cars. When a suitable parallel parking spot is identified, the system will signal the driver to stop and accept the system’s assistance.
  • Perpendicular Park In - assists the driver by reversing into a perpendicular parking spot using sensors to measure the distance from other parked cars and objects. When a suitable perpendicular parking spot is identified, the system will signal the driver to stop and accept the system’s assistance.
  • Parallel Park Out - aids the driver in exiting a difficult parallel parking spot. The driver presses the parking button* and the system provides instructions on shifting as well as moving the vehicle forward and back.
