As you can see in the chart above, dealer discounts and rebates bring down the price of new vehicles. It starts with the MSRP, which stands for the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. In conversation, we also often call it the “sticker price.” The two numbers in red are the rebates and the dealer discounts. These decrease the price the customer pays. Typically, rebates come from the manufacturer itself (in our case, Ford). And the dealer discounts are the savings that we as a dealership give directly to our customers. Currently, these savings combine to make the reduced new vehicle price less than the NADA price for used 2019 models.

Now, just as the new car prices have gone down, the used car prices have increased. NADA stands for National Automobile Dealers Association. As a member organization of car and truck dealerships, they obviously know their vehicles. In the chart above, you’ll notice that the used car price actually increased from August to September. Generally, as time goes by, you’d expect a used car’s price to depreciate. Obviously, there are some economic factors at play here. Use this supply-and-demand situation to your advantage!
